Microwave Bacon

Making bacon in the microwave is super quick and easy and perfect for busy mornings! Plus, it’s less messy than stovetop, no dangerous splatters, and it’s easy to control the doneness of the bacon to your liking.

Total Time10 minutes
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 8-10 slices bacon (adjustable, see notes)

Instructions

  • Put a double layer of paper towels on a flat surface. Arrange the bacon slices in an even layer. Top with a single layer of paper towels and place on a large microwave-safe plate. (You can skip the plate but will need to wipe down the microwave from the grease.)
  • Put in the microwave and cook on full power for 6-8 minutes. Start checking around 6 minutes for doneness and carefully remove any pieces that are cooked to your liking. Continue cooking remaining pieces in 30-45 second intervals until done. (See the notes below for tips and tricks and adjusting for different amounts.)

Notes

Timing: The rule of thumb is 1 minute of microwave time per slice of bacon, on full power. But it's best to underestimate and do less time until you get to know your microwave - and the type of bacon you buy.
Bacon type: Thick cut or center cut bacon is going to take longer than a regular slice that’s much thinner and will take less time. You’ll need to adjust accordingly.
Amount: Cooking just 2-3 pieces will take about 2-3 minutes, per the formula. But cooking 10 pieces will likely only take 8 or so minutes, not a full 10 minutes. You can adjust based on this for however many slices of bacon you want to make.
Check early and then regularly. Pull out pieces as they are done to your liking and continue cooking the rest. You can always add more time.
Bacon pieces on the outside and on the bottom will cook more quickly than those in the middle.
Leftovers: Cooked bacon, once cooled, can be stored in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Enjoy cold or microwave 1-2 pieces for 15 seconds, until hot. (Add more time if microwaving a larger batch to rewarm.)
