About Me

Family Food on the Table

Welcome to Family Food on the Table!

I'm Kathryn Doherty, the founder, owner, recipe creator, writer and more here. I'm so happy you found me.

I love to create and share easy, healthy recipes to make cooking at home possible, even on the busiest of days.

You'll be inspired to get in the kitchen more for day-to-day breakfasts, new fun lunches, and quick and easy dinners, plus yummy snacks and treats.

So, about me.

Background & Education:

I went to college at Northwestern University (near Chicago) and majored in journalism.

I worked as a health and nutrition editor for 15 years with SmartBrief, which is based in Washington, D.C. I lived there for 5 years and then worked remotely.

I'm married to my amazing wife and have two great kiddos. We live in Charlotte, N.C.

I have a cookbook called Healthy, Quick and Easy Baby Food. It features absolutely everything you need to make homemade baby food, plus tons of toddler and little kid recipes. It makes a great gift!

I've also appeared on Charlotte Today and QC Life, and been featured in People magazine, Everyday Health and Healthy Family Project, among others.

Want to know even more? Well, okay!

Behind-the-Scenes Tidbits:

I have a serious love of veggies, spicy food and apples.

I've always got bourbon on hand. Always.

My favorite color is purple and I am way too obsessed with it.

I’m a hugger. Give me a hug over a handshake any day.

We have two chocolate labs. Well, our older one passed away recently, but she still feels very much with us. Sadie is our young one with plenty of puppy still in her.

We've got two adorable cats as well. Max is our big boy tabby and Rizzo is the cutest ever manx. All of the pets are pictured below.

I’m a huge nerd. My dream job? Full-time student. Instead, I read a lot and always have some sort of research project I'm trying to make time for.

I love books (goes with the nerdom). I love flipping through books, I love browsing for books, I love just looking at books. And of course, cookbooks! I especially like old community cookbooks.

Long walks are my jam. Really long. Mostly this takes place outside in the form of daily exercise, but beaches and hiking are even better. I've also done the 2-day, 39.3 mile Avon Walk for breast cancer twice and loved every step.
