Poinsettia cocktail is an easy but pretty cranberry mimosa that’s fun and festive for the holidays!Three glasses with a pretty red sparkling wine cocktail with bowls of small snacks and a bottle of bubbly in the background.

I have partnered with ALDI on this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

We are full into the festive spirit here!

We spent the weekend putting up all of our Christmas lights and decorations, I got our cards addressed (such a chore but glad to have it done) and I did a lot of baking yesterday for my son's preschool bake sale and holiday party that's tonight.

We also took the kids to see the Magic of Christmas show that our symphony orchestra does every year and it was really great! All that Christmas music really puts me in the spirit! ❤️

And now that we’re into December, I’m all about the holiday parties and upcoming festivities. So many fun events to look forward to and so much to do to get ready!

(Yes, I’ve been planning for weeks and weeks now, but it’s getting REAL.)

And what does any brunch or gathering at the holiday require?

A fun drink, of course!

And this poinsettia cocktail is sure to be a new favorite!

Our fall go-to is apple cider mimosas in case you want to try those out too. A peppermint martini is also really festive for December. And a lemon drop martini is always a good idea!

Oh, and if you need a big batch to serve, try this sparkling holiday punch for some bubbly fun!

But back to today's pretty little cocktail. I remember my mom making these for friends and family way back before I was allowed to enjoy one myself.

I didn’t even know what I was missing, but I can see why she kept coming back to this classic.

You’ve got the beauty of some delicious bubbles, and, I mean, you can’t go wrong with that as a base! And then you’ve got a splash of orange liqueur to brighten up the drink and give it a background citrus flavor, and it’s finished off with rich, delicious cranberry juice to make a seriously stunning drink.

(By the way, I love me some orange and cranberry together. My whole wheat orange cranberry bread is an obvious example but I also include orange zest in my 15-minute easy cranberry sauce and have both fruits in our family’s cranberry apple salad. ❤️)

And if you love holiday entertaining like I do, you know how expensive it can get to host the party and buy all the adult beverages.

Which is why I was so excited to snag a few bottles of this Bonaval Cava Brut at my local ALDI. It's award-winning and everything!  And you can find tons of other affordable wines at ALDI for your holiday needs.

(Check out the ALDI store locator to find one near you.)

This Cava though is bright, fruity and bubbly and perfect for mixing into this festive cocktail for a fun drink to share with family and friends that won’t blow through your budget.

Notes on making a poinsettia cocktail:

  • I use the a brut Cava for these poinsettia mimosa cocktails, but any sparkling wine or champagne can be substituted.
  • I use Triple Sec but Cointreau or any orange liqueur will do here.
  • Poinsettia cocktails are traditionally just cranberry juice, but you can use half cranberry juice and half orange juice if you want something more like a regular mimosa.
  • Feel free to play with the quantities below. They are a suggestion and a starting point, but you can adjust the amount of sparkling wine, orange liqueur and cranberry juice to suit your tastes.

Be warned: These drinks are stronger than the mimosa you may be used to. That splash of orange liqueur really kicks them up a notch so please drink responsibly!

Serving these for a crowd? You can fancy them up with some cranberries or pomegranate seeds dropped in the drink, a slither of orange peel or with a sugared rim around the edge of your glasses.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, full of love and joy and cheer. ❤️

And also full of time with family and friends spent sharing laughs and a fun drink.

Enjoy!

XO,

Kathryn

I'm so glad I "discovered" ALDI earlier this year! You gotta check out this champagne - and their other great wines too! Have fun at your party and I hope you love the drink! 😊
