Taco pizza is just 5 ingredients, plus your favorite toppings, and easy to make for a fun, family friendly dinner any night!

A great way to use leftover taco meat - or to have a different take on both taco night and pizza night!

Taco night is a very, very regular thing in my house.

We love regular tacos, sure. But we also love fish tacos and baked chicken tacos and vegetarian tacos and taco skillets.

Then there’s taco pasta and taco soup, plus a taco casserole and even taco mac and cheese. A whole category even of healthy taco recipes.

You kinda don’t want to mess with us and tacos.

And when we started making taco pizza? Oh forget about it.

Taco pizza is now on the monthly menu. And if my kids had their way, it would be a weekly staple.

What’s not to love about this mash up?

Plus, it’s only 5 ingredients, and your favorite toppings.

So let’s get cooking.

Ingredients laid out in separate containers on a counter for making a homemade taco pizza.
Pizza dough rolled out on a parchment paper lined pizza pan.
Pizza sauce spread out on a rolled out pizza dough on a pizza pan.

Ingredient Notes:

Pizza dough: I usually use the kind in the tube from the refrigerated section of the grocery store that rolls out into a rectangle. It also works with a regular store-bought pizza dough if you prefer that.

Pizza sauce: You can buy a jar or pizza sauce or just use marinara.

Turkey: We always use lean ground turkey for our taco meat, but ground beef or ground chicken would be fine, too. This needs to be already cooked, so please plan accordingly.

Tomatoes: This adds to the taco vibes, in place of salsa, but you could skip them if you’d rather.

Cheese: Regular shredded cheddar cheese works great, or you could use a Mexican blend cheese or a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack. Sub in some pepper Jack cheese if you want a spicy kick. Some people even use mozzarella, for the nod to pizza, if you want to try that.

And of course, once this comes out of the oven, you’ll want to let everyone add their favorite toppings.

Shredded lettuce, sour cream or Greek yogurt and diced avocado are great options. You could also do olives or cilantro or pickled jalapeños.

(And if you want extra veggies on the pizza, you know I love that. Mushrooms, peppers and/or zucchini would be good options.)

This homemade pizza plus a bagged salad and you’ve got dinner on the table.

And trust me, everyone is going to be cheering for this meal.

Happy cooking and enjoy!

XO,

Kathryn

P.S. Stay tuned because I'm sharing some salmon taco bowls soon!

Taco Pizza

Taco pizza is just 5 ingredients, plus your favorite toppings, and easy to make for a fun, family friendly dinner any night!
Prep Time10 minutes mins
Cook Time15 minutes mins
Total Time25 minutes mins
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 (13 oz.) can refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups cooked taco seasoned ground turkey
  • 2 small Roma tomatoes, small chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend)

Optional toppings:

  • Shredded lettuce, sour cream or Greek yogurt, diced avocado, jalapeños, etc.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy clean up.
  • Unroll the pizza dough onto the baking sheet to an even, flat layer.
  • Top the dough with the pizza sauce, leaving a 1-inch border around the outside. Then sprinkle the pizza evenly with the taco meat, tomatoes and top with the shredded cheese.
  • Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and the top of the pizza is lightly browned.
  • Cut and serve hot with desired toppings. Enjoy!

Notes

Fresh pizza dough from the deli can also be used for this recipe.
Any leftover pizza, once cooled, can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. (We usually wrap ours in aluminum foil.) Reheat in the microwave then add your toppings.
